Itchy!
Five days post-procedure:
Last night the itching was the
worst it has been. In fact, I
woke up in the middle of the night because of it – the itching literally jolted
me awake. Thankfully I caught
myself before I just start scratching.
It’s actually surprising how aware I’ve become of the transplanted area
in my sleep. Even though it
itches, I don’t scratch it; and even though I’m out cold, if I move in my sleep
I adjust my position in such a way that I don’t disturb the transplants. I’ve talked to other people who have had
the same experience. It’s a
subconscious adjustment we make – our bodies apparently know what to do even if
we’re not thinking about it.
Anyhoo, the itching that night was particularly aggressive. I actually got out of bed, took a pain pill and a Unisom (an over-the-counter sleeping pill), and fell asleep in a recliner so I could keep my head elevated. This wound up working quite well! I was, admittedly, a little groggy in the morning, but I was able to sleep soundly through the rest of the night. After 1 week I can actually start gently touching my scalp and scratching any itches directly, so I’m very excited about that!
