Proof of Hair
Yesterday was an exceptional day. Why? You ask. Well, it was the first time someone (aside from myself and my wife) really noticed that my hair restoration was working. The fact that I haven't received many compliments is no ones fault but my own, mostly because I am wearing a hat 99.9 percent of the time I spend in public. But yesterday it happened, I let an outsider see me without a hat.
My boss asked me to remove my hat and he could not believe the results. He hadn’t seen the top of my head for more than four months and, to say the least, he was stunned at the results. Most importantly, he vowed that he was being serious and not just complimenting my hair restoration for the sake of kindness.
I am still insecure about going hatless in public, but I am making progress. In fact, after my boss's compliment I was out to dinner at the famous Dresden (Marty & Elayne) Jazz Lounge (which was in the movie “Swingers”). When I sat down at our table the manager politely asked me to remove my cap—this was a first in a restaurant environment. I have been relying on my cap for a while now, and I compare the feeling I had to asking someone to undress in public. My first instinct was to split, but I felt bad, so I stayed. Luckily I was with with friends and they were very supportive, but still, it didn’t seem right. I’m just not there yet. Although, I have been slicking my hair back lately and I must say, it gives me a slight glimpse of hope for the future.
Baby steps friends ... baby steps!
