The Many Different Types of Alopecia
A lot of people seem to be confused by Alopecia, not knowing there are several different types of the hair loss disease. Alopecia is segmented into four different categories. Here's a brief description of each form of Alopecia.
- Androgenetic Alopecia - Most common form of hair loss in men and women, hair is lost in a well defined pattern. In men it's known simply as male pattern baldness.
- Alopecia Areata - Hair is lost in different areas of the head, sometimes called spot baldness.
- Alopecia Totalis - The loss of hair on the entire head. The cause is unknown but linked to stress.
- Alopecia Universalis - The most severe form of Alopecia. Victims of Alopecia Universalis are unable to grow hair anywhere on their entire bodies.
Hope this clears up some of the Alopecia confusion.
