Hair Loss Caused By Seborrheic Dermatitis

Try saying that ten times fast! Actually, start by trying to say Seborrheic Dermatitis once.

Since starting the Battle Against Bald blog almost four months ago, I have made a point of explaining every cause of hair loss I knew of and have since learned about, including: genetics, alopecia, weight loss, Samson syndrome, heart disease, the list goes on. Much to my surprise, there is another hair loss cause on the block. The culprit is a form of eczema called Seborrheic Dermatitis.

In short, Seborrheic Dermatitis is a disease of the skin, much like eczema. However, unlike eczema and traditional dermatitis, which affect the skin's exterior, Seborrheic Dermatitis can cause permanent hair loss. If  Seborrheic Dermatitis on  the scalp is left unchecked all the hair on the infected area may be lost.

If you think this could be the cause of your hair loss I suggest you go and see a physician.

Thyroid has always been a main cause for hair Loss..and thanks for the preventive measures for that..but we should always keep in mind that all these measures dosen't have a 100% chance to get a bunch of healthy hair..the only way out is Hair Transplant.

I have had sebborheic dermatitis for 30 years and have had some hair loss---and since I am a woman, it is most disturbing. I agree about the treatments that doctors recommend. Shampoos and hydrocortisone don't help much.

However, a month ago I started taking fish oil capsules because I had heard that they were good to take for health reasons. I had terrible dandruff with the sebborhea but after 2 1/2 weeks, the dandruff went away. It appears that the hair is starting to grow back also, at least in some spots---we'll see how that goes since it's been gone for 10 years. (I have read that if the inflammation can be checked, the hair will grow back.) This is from taking 1200 mg per day of EPA/DHA.

Just read your short article about seborrhoeic dermatitis. Sorry to say it, but you can go to your doctor all you want, but it won't do a damn bit of good for you. I've had seb dem for nearly 15 years and it has eaten away my front hairline. No other member of my family - male or female - has lost any hair, but this disease has done it to me. The things doctors and even consultant dermatologists themselves give you is useless. Things like Betnovate, Dermovate and Cocois ointment (sometimes) help remove the hardened scales, but they also take the hair with it and of course this is only a very short term 'help', because the dermatitis comes back again and you have to go through the same process over and over. It is useless. Nothing works and doctors are the most obsolete human beings on this earth. If you are unfortunate enough to suffer from this condition, I'm sorry, but there is no hope whatsoever...
