Hair Loss Affects Women
Men are not the only people suffering from hair loss, nor are they the only patients of hair restoration surgeries. Hair loss is also a common problem amongst women too. In fact, female hair loss is probably more of a problem. After all, it is more socially acceptable for male to roam the streets sporting a bald spot, than it is for a woman. As a culture, we have grown accustomed to the reality that men will lose their hair; actually it is expected. Some men escape with minimal hair loss, while others are left with hardly any hair on their head at all.
Hair loss in women is not life-threatening, but it is life altering; as explained in Strands of Agony, a recent Mississippi newspaper article. As apposed to men, the blame for female hair loss doesn't solely lie in genetics. Rather, for women, several factors could trigger the loss, including aging, hormonal changes, heredity, stress, underlying medical conditions, iron deficiency and reactions to medicine. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, heredity is to blame for thinning hair in about 30 million American women, or 70 percent of women who report hair loss from any cause.
To my surprise, I have recently heard about more cases of women undergoing transplantation procedures, which now makes a lot of sense, considering how common female hair loss is.
