Day 3 After Hair Restoration Procedure
OK, my scalp is itching like a f*&@!ng b^%$#! I have one day’s supply of pain killers left, and no more sleeping pills.
I called the Bosley 800 number, and they actually put me through to the Seattle office. I thought this was cool, especially since it was Saturday. Even cooler, one of the nurses I talked to the day of my procedure (Lissa, to be exact), answered the phone. She told me that I could put a cold compress on my head to help relieve the itching, and that I could now sleep in any regular position – which I’ve been looking forward to. She told me to keep showering with the special shampoo they gave me, and otherwise to pretty much stick it out. It seems like she expected me to say that I had a bunch of swelling, so I’m guessing that this is something that happens pretty regularly. With me, no swelling though – just itching.
I use cold compresses and take a shower, and it all helps.
A note about the showering: for the two weeks following the procedure, the scalp is too sensitive to get pelted with the direct water flow from the shower head. So instead, you have to use a big glass or bowl, fill it with water, and pour it over your scalp a few times. You also have to use the shampoo and gently rub the area around the suture on the back of your head to keep it clean. As I mentioned, this is the area that – for me – has been really sore. While this isn’t excruciating by any means, it’s definitely uncomfortable.
The whole thing right now is basically just that – uncomfortable. I’m kind of ready for it to be over. On the other hand, I have to keep reminding myself – after this, I’ll have hair for the rest of my life. When I think about it like that, a few days of discomfort doesn’t seem like such a big deal.
